Marks Hall Arboretum

Situated near Coggeshall and with easy access from both the A12 and the A120, the Marks Hall Arboretum is a must-visit part of Essex at any time of the year, but especially in autumn when the leaves are on the turn.  The extensive tree collection features native species as well as specimens from other temperate areas of the globe.  The paths through the Arboretum take you through woodland, along grassy lawns and by the side of a double lake where you’ll spot swans, ducks and geese.  The 18th century Walled Garden is characterised by more structured planting, but is just as beautiful nonetheless.  Wear comfortable shoes and take your camera – and don’t plan to rush, as this is a large site where you’ll want to make full use of the many benches to soak up those incredible views.  Entrance currently costs a very reasonable £5; RHS members get in free of charge in May, June and July.
